Crocodiles rock

Create your own colourful croc, complete with a mouthful of scary gnashers!

Folding decorations on sticks are fun for all ages to make – this one is perfect for children aged 12 months to six years. They are simply strips of paper made into creatures, insects or shapes, coloured in with crayons or felt-tipped pens and attached to wooden sticks. Adding ribbons makes the look especially festive.

What you will need

  Paper

  Pencil

  Scissors

  Marker pen

  Felt-tipped pens

  Wooden sticks

  Sticky tape

Tips...

For quick results, use patterned paper and just add the head.

Cut several strips of paper and tape them together to make a really long crocodile or dragon for two children to play with.

1. Draw a rough outline of a crocodile: a long oblong with bulging eyes at one end and tapering tail at the other. Make the top of the back a bold zigzag.

Cut out the crocodile shape.

2. Draw in the eyes, mouth and nostril with a marker pen. Draw stripes down the length of the body and colour them in with felt-tipped pens.

3. Leaving the head and tail flat, carefully fold the middle body section of your paper shape in a concertina-style to create a crocodile’s back.

4. Tape two wooden sticks to the wrong side of the crocodile, one near the front and one near the back to make a pair of crocodile legs.
